Sublimation Explained
- Technical sports clothing is normally produced using the dye sublimation printing process. In sublimation, the graphics are applied BEFORE the garment is sewn together. The graphics are printed full size (in mirror image) on special paper that is the same shape as the fabric panels of the clothing. Then these graphic papers are placed on the pieces of blank white fabric and put through a heat press where the special sublimation inks sublimate (go from solid to vapor) into the fibers of the fabric. Then the fabric pieces are sewn together into the final garment.
- Sublimated graphics will not crack or peel, since the colors and graphics are infused into the fibers of the fabric, instead of applied on top of the fabric in a large area of stiff ink.
